Ministers agreed that the pandemic could only be solved globally with united, swift, and decisive global action in a spirit of solidarity.
Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister backed the launch of a “Team Europe” package to support partner countries in the fight against the pandemic and its consequences.
N. Germanas also drew attention to the need to focus more on the EU’s eastern neighbors and the Western Balkans, and noted that the EU’s efforts to fight the pandemic at the international level would not be effective unless the EU first helped its immediate neighborhood, especially in the East.
Lithuania also urged the EU institutions to take on a more active leadership role and to strive for greater internal solidarity amongst member states in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic. “Before we can help others successfully, we must first be in the position to help ourselves properly,” said N. Germanas.
