The meeting focused on the Just Transition Mechanism, which aims to help European Union (EU) Member States (regions and sectors) facing major challenges in their transition to a climate-neutral economy. Commissioner Sinkevičius presented the Mechanism, noting that Lithuania should get EUR 96.7 million.
The Prime Minister pointed out the importance of the future multi-annual EU budget for the implementation of the Green Deal. Other EU policies, including the controversial Mobility Package, must not be in contradiction with the climate ambitions.
Lithuania welcomes the fact that all the EU Member States will be able to benefit from the Just Transition Mechanism, but it has certain misgivings lest this Mechanism be built on the cohesion and agriculture funds.
The Prime Minister expressed support for Virginijus Sinkevičius’ initiative to reduce pollution in the Baltic Sea. The Government will not tolerate irresponsible actions that damage Lithuanian water bodies and nature.
