Neverovic proposed that future EU energy security strategy would first of all focus on necessity to implement Projects of Common Interest as soon as possible.
According to Lithuania's minister of energy, fully-fledged operation of EU domestic energy market has to be ensured focusing on improving energy links, increasing capacity between EU member states, and enhancing the use and production of energy from internal EU energy resources.
Neverovic stressed that establishing equal conditions with third countries, so that all market participants keep to EU competition laws and provisions of the Third Energy Package, should become a part of the EU energy security.
According to the minister of energy, for such small countries like Lithuania, whose energy and gas markets are fairly minor, ensuring additional EU funding using Connecting Europe Facility instrument and European Investment Bank possibilities is vital for implementation of strategic energy infrastructure projects. If projects are implemented only from transmission tariffs, energy poverty will increase and company competitiveness will reduce.
During the Informal Meeting of Ministers for Energy, Neverovic also met with Latvian Minister of Economy Vjaceslavs Dombrovskis. The two discussed issues relating to cooperation when implementing strategic projects in gas and electricity sectors.
