“I thank the Lithuanian officers who professionally and smoothly returned the Lithuanian citizens to their homeland. I am happy that their loved ones finally have a chance to see their husbands, fathers and sons. I thank each and every one for their patience and trust in their country which sees the protection of the rights and freedom of its citizens as a fundamental duty. Any policy becomes meaningless if we fail to see its ultimate purpose – to protect the man and his loved ones from suffering”, said the President.
The exchange of citizens took place today at the Lithuanian-Russian border. The President was constantly informed of the progress of the operation.
