"Faith in Lithuania - that is what we have most importantly gained during this qualitatively new stage in the life of our state. The first ten years in the Community opened truly huge opportunities for our people, and we were able to make good use of them. We have been rapidly modernizing our economy, enhancing our businesses, improving the environment for foreign investment, making many reliable friends and allies around the world. Ten successful years in the European Union is the achievement of all Lithuanian people," the President said.
The head of state underlined that this choice of Lithuania takes on a new meaning against the background of the events unfolding in Ukraine. Where people are fighting with their lives for the right to make a pro-European choice. Where there are attempts to stifle this aspiration.
According to the President, in ten years of its EU membership Lithuania became much stronger and well established in Europe. Throughout these years, the name of Lithuania has repeatedly resounded among the best of Europe in the fields of economy, sports, innovation, investment, and many others.
Membership in the European Union has allowed the Lithuanian people to move, travel, work and study freely in all member states. EU membership also helps us to deal with energy security challenges. With access to EU financial assistance and expertise, Lithuania is emerging as a growing, stable, transparent, competitive, and secure welfare state which is respected across Europe.
The President invited all to further strengthen Lithuania - building on European togetherness and opportunities. It can only be achieved if we stand strong for freedom, security and well-being.
