The President appointed Vytautas Pinkus as Ambassador to Hungary and Edminas Bagdonas as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
The President and the new Ambassador to Hungary discussed bilateral economic relations which, according to the President, are strongly predetermined by the positions and cooperation of both countries in the transatlantic and European context. When referring to defense and security issues the President highlighted the responsible position of Hungary in ensuring regional security. Hungary also takes part in air policing missions and military exercises in the Baltic States.
The meeting with the new Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates focused on strengthening of bilateral and regional relations in areas of trade, energy, and innovation. Lithuanian Embassy in Abu Dhabi will be the first diplomatic representation in the Persian Gulf. The President expressed hope that further consistent development of economic diplomacy would expand markets for the export of Lithuanian goods. As mutual interest in culture and shared business, tourism and education projects grows among the people, the development of connections between Lithuania and the UAE will gain momentum.
The new Ambassador to Hungary currently worked as Director of Personnel Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He previously was Ambassador to Iceland, Denmark, and Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Pinkus speaks English and Russian.
The new Lithuanian Ambassador to the UAE recently served as Lithuania’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Israel. He previously worked as Director of Eastern Neighborhood policy department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Belarus. Ambassador Bagdonas speaks Czech, Polish, Slovak, Serbians, Ukrainian, Russian, English, Italian and Belarusian languages.
