The seven candidates who received the certificates were Social Democrat and Member of the European Parliament Zigmantas Balčytis, current President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Labour Party candidate Artūras Paulauskas, Member of the Seimas Naglis Puteikis, Ignalina Mayor Bronis Ropė, leader of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania and Member of the European Parliament Valdemar Tomaševski, and Vilnius Mayor Artūras Zuokas.
From now on the candidates have legal immunity; Vilnius Mayor Artūras Zuokas and Ignalina Mayor Bronis Ropė already had it before due to their positions.
The presidential candidates signed the declaration on honourable and fair elections and committed to take an effort to make sure that the upcoming presidential elections are clear and fair.
Initially there were 13 people aiming to become presidential candidates, but 5 of them failed to collect the signatures needed to qualify for registration; it was Rolandas Paksas, Linas Balsys, Vladas Lašas, Rolandas Paulauskas, Jonas Lašinis and Kristina Brazauskienė.
Presidential elections in Lithuania will take place on 11th May. If needed, the second round will be combined with European Parliament elections on 25th May.
