Indeed, last month the EAPL leader received a phone call from a person who did not introduce himself. The anonymous told that he was calling from the Security Department, but when Tomaševski asked about the purpose of the call, the person said that this is not a phone conversation. Then Tomaševski said that if the head of the calling person was really the SSD director, then the MEP would find time to talk to him. However, Gedinimas Grina did not call the EAPL leader.
According to the Speaker of the Seimas Loreta Graužinienė, V. Tomaševski did not want to talk to the SSD employee, as he expected to speak to a higher-ranking officer of the department.
'Everyone decides whether he or she wants to accept the information from the SSD. (...) Maybe honourable V. Tomaševski wanted to be invited by the director. He is a MEP, maybe he thought that it is necessary that he is informed at least by a vice-director,' said L. Graužinienė for 'Žinių radijas' last Wednesday.
According to commentators, such security services' actions in an EU member state are unaccepted and shortly before elections mean nothing else but simply joining the political game. It gives an excuse to other politicians, namely conservatives (e.g. A. Kubilius, I. Degutienė, A. Anušauskas), to attack and denigrate one of the candidates for the position of the President of Lithuania.
Some observers think, that there is a possibility that this and also other scandals made after the statement of SSD head are ordered by conservatives, who support one of the presidential candidates. If this suspicion proves to be justified, then it has to be sadly admitted that we go back to the fusion of one party with security services what leads to the violation of other parties' representatives' rights to freedom of speech and personal liberty.
