She also talked to President Barack Obama about safeguarding regional security in the Baltic States and the situation in Ukraine, the presidential press service said.
The Lithuanian head of state and Chinese President Xi Jinping exchanged views on bilateral relations and recalled their meeting during President Grybauskaite's visit to China.
Together with world leaders, the president participated in a discussion on nuclear proliferation scenarios and on how to use the available instruments to counter threats at both national and international levels.
According to Grybauskaite, nuclear safety has no borders and is therefore an obligation and responsibility that the entire international community has to take care of. She noted it was very important for Lithuania that nuclear power plants planned or under construction in close proximity to our borders should meet the highest nuclear safety requirements, and that Russia and Belarus should implement these projects transparently and in full compliance with all international agreements, including the Espoo Convention.
The objective of the Hague Summit is to strengthen nuclear security and safety, increase transparency and trust between countries which are developing nuclear construction projects and those affected by such projects.
Taking part in the Hague Summit are King Abdullah II of Jordan, U.S. President Barack Obama, President Francois Hollande of France, President Xi Jinping of China, President Abdullah Gul of Turkey, Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom, Swedish and Danish prime ministers, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, EU leaders Jose Manuel Barroso and Herman Van Rompuy, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano, Secretary-General of the International Criminal Police Organization Ronald K. Noble, and representatives of delegations from 53 countries.
The Hague Nuclear Security Summit is the third such global forum. The first was held in 2010 in Washington. The second took place two years later in Seoul, and it was attended by President Dalia Grybauskaite.
