The meeting is convened because the British House of Commons rejected the withdrawal agreement and the current Brexit date is April 12.
In order to avoid a no-deal, Prime Minister Theresa submitted a request for a further extension of Brexit until 30 June.
EU leaders will consider the British Prime Minister’s request, the deadline and conditions for delaying Brexit in the expectation that a political consensus will be reached in the UK on withdrawal from the EU.
Institutions and member states have already started preparations for a hard Brexit. On April 11, the Lithuanian parliament will vote for a package of 19 laws that would come into force in case of a no-deal Brexit.
