"I am delighted that Saint Patrick's Day - celebrated all over the world - is also observed by the people of Lithuania. But the most important thing is that it brings our countries, communities and people together," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.
2013 was an exceptional year for Ireland and Lithuania, when our countries held the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Much was accomplished during the year: the EU financial system was strengthened, agreement was reached on the EU's multiannual financial framework, and conditions to create new jobs were put in place.
According to the President, the exceptionally good results of our presidencies were predetermined by common values and goals, very close cooperation and vigorous work. These achievements will further deepen the relations between our countries and their consolidated efforts for the future of the European Union.
President Grybauskaitė wished the President of Ireland and all the people of his country much joy, continued well-being and prosperity.
