Candidates applying for the position of the President of the Republic of Lithuania have to present the forms with the collected signatures to the CEC no later than on 27th March. CEC will register a person as a candidate for the President of Lithuania if the person is supported by at least 20 thousand voters' signatures. On Monday first presidential candidates started to submit their signed forms.
Presidential candidates have received the form for signatures' collection on 22nd February. Valdemar Tomaševski, candidate of the EAPL, managed to collect as many as 51 thousand signatures in such a short period of time. Today the signatures were presented to the CEC representatives.
There were 7 presidential candidates during last elections of the head of state in 2009. Another 8 people have failed to collect the required number of signatures of voters or there were other reasons why they did not become candidates.
Below we present the list of presidential candidates of 2009 with the number of signatures collected by every candidate. Then, 5 years ago, Valdemar Tomaševski managed to collect the highest number of signatures - 36 981.

In order to support a candidate it is also possible to sign electronically on the CEC website no later than on 27th March. The elections of Lithuanian President will take place on 11th May.
