Such a position of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania was expressed in the adopted resolution on the Threats Posed by Russian Federation to Safety of Ukraine and Europe. This document which strongly supports the Ukraine's sovereignty, independence and the territorial integrity was supported by 82 members of the Seimas. None of the members of the Seimas voted against it and 4 members abstained.
In the resolution, the members of Lithuania's Seimas expressed the solidarity with the new Ukraine's Government and urged all the Ukraine's governmental institutions, political parties and the society to work together, so that the democratic reforms restoring the political and economic stability as well as the unity of the society would be implemented.
Lithuania's Seimas turned to the political leaders of the European Union (EU) and NATO and the international community and encouraged to take the immediate actions to stop Russia's aggression against Ukraine and to secure Ukraine's territorial integrity and the safety of the EU and NATO member states.
The members of the Seimas welcomed the U.S. decision to strengthen the NATO Air Policing mission in the Baltic States and Poland.
The document condemns the Russian Federation's military aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of the part of Ukraine's territory.
"The Russian Federation's purposive actions violating the bilateral and multilateral agreements over the security of the Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity endangers the safety not only of Ukraine but the safety of the EU and NATO member states as well as the stability in Europe," said the Seimas in the resolution.
The Seimas highlighted that the Russian Federation did not react to the active international community's attempt to solve the crisis by the peaceful dialogue and further increased the tension by its unilateral actions.
Lithuania's Seimas approved of the EU and U.S. initiatives and the made decision to render the financial assistance for Ukraine in order to ensure the economic state's stability and the implementation of the needed universal reforms.
In the adopted document, the Seimas express their support for the immediate signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and its consistent implementation, the further actions while striving for the progress in the visa liberalization regime.
In the document, the EU is encouraged to give the clear perspective of the membership in the EU for Ukraine. According to the members of the Seimas, further strengthening of NATO - Ukraine cooperation would significantly contribute to the safety of Ukraine and Europe.
In the resolution presented by Deputy Speaker of the Seimas Petras Austrevicius, the Lithuania's political parties are encouraged to sign the new agreement on the Lithuania's foreign, security and defence policy.
