'I find the situation and the political crisis in Ukraine ambiguous. On one hand, any actions of armed forces, especially from abroad, are worth being condemned; on the other hand, it is necessary to tell the truth about the origins of the conflict. I am not a follower of revolutions. I think that presidents should be elected through regular voting, not during rallies where bloodshed occurs – as it was in Maidan,' said V. Tomaševski.
The Member of the European Parliament noted that the events in Ukraine are ambiguous, as the essence of the conflict is inconsistent too.
"It is also important to note that there was less than a year left until the presidential elections in Ukraine before the rallies started. It is a common citizen who always suffers after revolutions: economic crisis deepens and it is dealt with at the expenses of ordinary citizens. Revolutions often result in one oligarch replacing the other. In the face of all these events, the use of military forces, especially from abroad, by any of the sides is unacceptable. But neither can I accept the actions of the new government whose first step was the removal of the Law on National Minorities. It is often confirmed by the commentators that some of the Maidan leaders, Oleh Tiahnybok and others, are guided by the nationalist ideology of Stepan Bandera, who was very anti-Polish, anti-Russian and anti-Semitic. That is why I think that our politicians should be more aware of the nature of the conflict, which, as I said, is ambiguous,' V. Tomaševski assessed the conflict.
The Ukrainian presidential election will take place on 25th May.
