Participating in the meeting were Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, Defence Minister Juozas Olekas, Deputy Speakers of Parliament Gediminas Kirkilas and Petras Auštrevičius, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Benediktas Juodka, opposition leader Andrius Kubilius, and Chief of Defence Arvydas Pocius.
The meeting involved discussion on the threats Russia's aggression in Ukraine is posing to Lithuania and to the whole of Europe, as well as on measures to ensure the national security. When it comes to strategic issues of critical importance, the President noted, all the political forces, both those in power and those in opposition should act together and take responsibility for the country's security.
According to the President, the situation is under control and all appropriate measures are undertaken to ensure the security of the country.
"Lithuania as well as other Baltic States and Poland are prepared for contingencies. We know what to do in any situation. We closely coordinate our actions with NATO officials and the military. All appropriate measures are undertaken to ensure the security of Lithuania, the Baltic States and the European Union," the President said.
She also underlined that Lithuania was closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and adhering to all the countries that condemned in the strongest terms the military actions and intervention in the territory of sovereign Ukraine.
"We all in the European Union and NATO assess the situation alike. It is deplorable. We are ready to help Ukraine as much as we can, including by coordinating our actions with all member states of the EU and NATO," the President said.
Dalia Grybauskaitė noted that Lithuania was in constant contact and consultations with EU and NATO member states regarding countermeasures.
