The meeting focused on bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Poland and the outcomes of the Vilnius Summit held last November. The developments in Ukraine were also discussed.
The President underlined that now it was important to maintain the unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine. She also noted that after forming a new coalition government it was crucial to immediately embark on reforms that are needed for the well-being of the country and the people.
According to the President, the international community should help Ukraine to tackle the complicated financial situation in the country. Ukraine's new coalition government has a task to hold free and democratic presidential election.
When discussing bilateral cooperation, the President emphasized that Lithuania and Poland successfully cooperated in the sphere of energy integration.
The LitPol Link power interconnection between Lithuania and Poland, which will be completed by the end of the next year, will connect the electricity systems of the Baltic States with the European Continental Network. Enabling electricity exchange between Poland and the Northern European power market Nord Pool Spot to which Lithuania belongs, will contribute to boosting the region's energy security. Also, the Lithuanian-Polish gas interconnector (GIPL) is included in the list of Europe's strategic projects. Implementation of this project will provide an opportunity to use the liquefied natural gas terminal, which is being constructed in Klaipėda, for gas imports to Poland as well.
