During their meeting, the President and the Ambassador discussed cooperation between Lithuania and Pakistan, the development of legal relations by signing bilateral agreements, prospects for advancing economic ties as well as collaboration in the spheres of culture and education.
According to the President, solid legal framework is needed for promoting bilateral cooperation; therefore, it is important to finalize the signing and implement the negotiated bilateral agreements. The trade-economic cooperation agreement has already been signed, and Lithuania has submitted to Pakistan proposals to sign agreements for the avoidance of double taxation, investment promotion, research and technical cooperation, etc.
Among the other topics discussed at the meeting was economic cooperation between Lithuania and Pakistan. In 2013, Lithuania-Pakistan trade turnover increased by 32.8 percent compared with 2012. The discussion also involved the perspectives of collaborating in student exchange. Pakistani students would be welcome in Lithuania, the President said.
Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Pakistan were established in 1994. On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of diplomatic relations, the President wished to continue promoting bilateral dialogue and strengthening cooperation.
Masroor Ahmed Junejo (57) is Pakistan's fifth ambassador to Lithuania. In the course of his diplomatic career he served in Pakistani Embassies in Delhi, Madrid, London, and Riyadh. Since 2013, he has been the Ambassador of Pakistan to Denmark. The Ambassador holds a master's degree in business administration.
