There were three points on the agenda of the conference. Zdzislav Palevič, vice-chairman of the party, who was referring to the first point, has officially presented the candidacy of the EAPL leader for the position of the President of Lithuania.
'We can be proud of having such a candidate,' said the vice-chairman before all the participants of the conference have supported the candidacy of V. Tomaševski in the presidential elections.
We would like to remind, that on 14th February the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has registered V. Tomaševski as a candidate for the presidential elections taking place in May 2014.
The second point of the agenda was the approval of the EAPL list for the elections to the European Parliament. The EAPL vice-chairwoman Vanda Kravčionok has presented the candidates.
There were 35 names on the initial list of the EAPL candidates. After lengthy discussion 22 names remained. The representatives of the Russian and Belarussian minorities as well as of Lithuanian communities will be included in the list too. V Tomaševski, chairman of the EAPL, will lead the list. Members of the Seimas from the EAPL political group as well as the vice-mayor of the city of Vilnius Jaroslav Kaminski were also offered to be on the list, but they thanked for the confidence and resigned. The Director of the Administration of the Self-government of Vilnius district wanted to have the last place. The final list was approved with one voice.
During the conference, delegates have also discussed the preparations for the elections as well as news on the political scene. The EAPL leader said, that lessons should be learnt from previous elections, problems should be identified and faced. According to the Member of the European Parliament, the position of the EAPL party is getting stronger in the political arena thanks to the honest work of the party representatives. It can be illustrated by the fact that among all the 40 parties of Lithuania most of the tax write-off was made exactly for the EAPL two years in a row.
V. Tomaševski took part in the presidential elections in 2009. Then he, being the youngest candidate, took the fourth out of seven places and obtained almost 5% of votes in the state. In Šalčininkai and Vilnius districts he obtained correspondingly 67% and 50% of votes.
The EAPL Governing Council thinks that V. Tomaševski has a real chance to improve the already achieved results and maybe even reach the second round of elections.
Lithuania will be electing its President on 11th May 2014 and the elections to the European Parliament will take place two weeks after, on 25th May 2014.
