“After the Lithuanian Embassy in Bern was closed, we aimed at ensuring the continued provision of consular services and protection to Lithuanian citizens in Switzerland. Thus, it was decided to open the Lithuanian Consulate in Geneva,” said the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius in his welcome speech.
"The Consulate will provide truly versatile assistance to Lithuanian citizens living in Switzerland. Our door is always open," noted the Consul Eduardas Petkevičius.
On 6 August, the Embassy of Lithuania in the Swiss Confederation was closed in accordance with the Government's decision to economize on costs. The Consulate of Lithuania was set up in Geneva on 7 August.
According to official statistics, 2,500 Lithuanians live in Switzerland.
