Minister’s visit agenda includes meetings with Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee Jim Inhofe and other Senators, visits to the U.S. Special Operations Command and the U.S. Central Command in Florida, and participation in the Reagan National Defence Forum in California.
The U.S. is a strategic partner of Lithuania. Its commitments ensure security in the region, military presence and visibility in Lithuania and the region are among key security and stability factors to Lithuania. The U.S., both bilaterally and in support of NATO efforts, implements wide deterrence measures in the Baltic region and attaches great importance to consolidating U.S. military presence in Lithuania and the region.
Lithuania is developing bilateral cooperation with the U.S. through exercises of different nature and level and participation in joint courses and training events, and the U.S. supports projects for developing the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ capabilities.
Lithuania’s seeks to retain and expand the U.S. military presence and visibility in Lithuania and the region, improve force interoperability and readiness for collective defence, and to take part in multinational operations and missions together.
The United States is supporting Lithuania’s effort to strengthen its Armed Forces’ capabilities financially from the Foreign Military Fund (FMF), also from the European Reassurance Initiative (ERI) from 2015, and from 2017 – from the European Deterrence Initiative (EDI). The financial support is used for procuring military equipment, improving military infrastructure, and for other projects that strengthen defence capabilities.
