The liquefied natural gas storage vessel that was completed early this year and is expected to reach the Klaipėda port before the end of the year is highly important for Lithuania's energy independence. Before sailing off the vessel - according to ship naming traditions - the President will be the sponsor of this new vessel and name her "Independence". The LNG terminal in Klaipėda will be launched at the end of this year. Gas for Lithuania will be bought and supplied from all over the world, at the most favorable market prices for our country.
Participating in the naming ceremony, which will be held in the city of Ulsan, will also be representatives of the shipbuilders from the South Korean company Hyunday Heavy Industries, Norwegian company Höegh LNG, the owners of the vessel, and Klaipėdos Nafta.
In Seoul, Dalia Grybauskaitė will meet with South Korea's President Park Geun-hye to discuss energy, economic, political and cultural cooperation between Lithuania and South Korea.
