The EAPL press officer Gintarė Pugačiauskaitė has cited some of the examples of the disadvantages of modern democracy and underlined that there are still activists living and working according to the fundamental values in today's political arena. This way the press officer referred to V. Tomaševski, the candidate for the position of the president of Lithuania.
'Modern democracy is burdened by problems that are not as much related with foreign influences, alleged internal or external enemies, as with citizens who do not trust their politicians. (...) It is difficult to make a right decisions when there are ordered television programs broadcasted, lots of articles written (in the media). So let us look at these politicians who obey basic rules, protect the faith and work honestly,' said G. Pugačiauskaitė.
Chairwoman of the EAPL political group in the Seimas Rita Tamašunienė stressed that V. Tomaševski is 'a righteous and honest person who is always keeping his words'. The chairwoman explained, why the role of the leader is so important. She said, that the EAPL is guided by fundamental moral values in its activities. The party respects the principle that the authorities should serve a man, who is always in a spotlight. The support of the citizens of Lithuania (not only of the representatives of national minorities, but of Lithuanians as well) in the Seimas elections as well as the fact that the EAPL managed to form a separate political group in the Seimas, indicate how important is the role of the party chairman, leader Valdemar Tomaševski.
The candidate himself said that as his goal he chose to spread the solutions that have been implemented in the Vilnius region across the whole country in order to bring long-awaited by the citizens changes.
When speaking about the positive changes in the Vilnius region, V. Tomaševski mentioned the subsidies paid for hot and cold water, tax reliefs for farmers owning less than 5 hectares of land, realization of various projects with a minimum debt of local self-governments, building of new kindergartens, hospitals and social centres.
'In the Vilnius region our political force managed to unite all the people of good will in order to create common welfare. We have united not only representatives of national minorities, but also citizens of Lithuanian nationality. People can see our honest work. Our representatives have never been involved in any corruption scandals, our self-governments have no debts, there are lots of investment projects realized, new kindergartens are built,' said the presidential candidate, who is going to go through next procedures of applying for the president office, including the collection of signatures of citizens supporting his candidacy.
