The high-level international import exhibition is held against the background of growing tension in international trade and launches a new stage in Chinese trading policies. The world's largest exporter, China intends to open its market to foreign imports.
The President will visit Lithuanian pavilions and meet with Lithuanian business people. Eighteen enterprises from Lithuania will display their products in two pavilions at the Expo. At one of them, Chinese visitors will be able to taste Lithuanian breads, dairy products, sauces, and other varieties of Lithuanian food. The second will present Lithuanian-made textiles, clothing articles, furniture, and interior designs.
Lithuanian companies have demonstrated that they are successful competitors in the Chinese market. Twelve percent of Lithuanian laser exports go to China. Three laser manufacturers have their representations there.
Today China is Lithuania’s main trading partner in Asia. Their bilateral trade turnover amounted to one billion euros last year. Lithuanian exports grew by 50 percent during the same period.
Lithuania and China are also linked by dynamic contacts in arts. Lithuanian actors, musicians and film-makers participate in various Chinese art festivals. The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra will be performing in China during the President’s visit.
In Shanghai, the President Dalia Grybauskaitė will meet with President Xi Jinping and will attend an Expo dinner for heads of state.
The President of Lithuania will launch one of the three main expo forums on trade and investment and will deliver a speech at an event designed to highlight the development of FinTech. The event will be attended by 50 Chinese companies interested in cooperation with Lithuania and the European Union.
