"Lithuania is very grateful to Spain for its significant contribution to security of our country and the region. The Spanish Air Force has carried out NATO‘s air policing and air policing missions in the Baltic states five times already, including three times in Lithuania. From May to August 2018, the Spanish Eurofighter jets were deployed to Šiauliai and contributed to the protection of airspace over Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia," said N.Germanas.
The Lithuanian and Spanish societies are among the most pro-European in the European Union. Both countries share similar concerns about the challenges currently facing the EU and agree on the principles for tackling them. The two countries are also concerned with Diaspora issues in the context of Brexit, also with guaranteeing equivalent rights for the EU citizens living in the United Kingdom. The Vice-Minister and the Spanish Ambassador agreed that the issue related to migration should be tackled on the basis of responsibility and solidarity. It was also agreed that both countries should continue holding regular consultations on relevant items on the European, Transatlantic agendas, and other multilateral issues.
Spain opened its Embassy in Vilnius in 2004. The Ambassador José María Robles Fraga is the fifth representative of Spain in Lithuania.
