During the meeting the fact that Japan is the most important Lithuania's partner in Asia was stressed. The historic visit of the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe to Lithuania gave the bilateral cooperation further momentum. During this visit a dialogue between Japan and the Baltic States on cooperation (3+1) was initiated which was followed by the organisation of the first meeting of the said format on 27 September 2018 in Vilnius.
'I hope that my visit to Japan in relation to which intense preparations are ongoing will strengthen meaningful political dialogue. The planned programme of the visit is intense and includes participation in the opening of the international exhibition BioJapan and introduction of the stand of Lithuania's enterprises, participation in the Lithuania-Japan business forum attended by 18 enterprises from Lithuania. The programme of the visit contains an import meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, Japan's ministers for foreign affairs, education, culture, sports, science and technologies as well as the chairman of the interparliamentary relations group', said the Head of the Government.
In addition, the planned visit includes the signing of the documents regarding a Working holiday scheme, cooperation in the fields of science and technologies, presentation of Lithuania's culture, history and economic potential at the University of Hiroshima and tribute to the victims at the Hiroshima memorial. During the visit attention will be paid to the memory of famous Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara.
