'As the media informed, a group of Lithuanian intellectualists has addressed a letter to the authorities of Lithuania today; the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania was attacked in the letter. Everything indicates, that this is another letter written by the nationalist organization 'Vilnija', which can be proud of nothing apart of attacking Poles at every opportunity. No arguments were quoted in the letter; it includes only insinuations, which have nothing in common with the real state of things. As it is known, even six organizations stated the fact of violation of human rights in Lithuania; this has been emphatically presented in the media by the Forum of Parents of Polish School in Šalčininkai district. Referring to the allegation of the authors of the letter concerning the alleged unlawful election of the deputies of the EAPL, it should be noted, that the allegation is absurd and, to add, repeated by the 'Vilnija' activists for 1,5 year. It was the EAPL itself, not the coalition, that took part in the last elections to the Seimas, what is also supported by the fact, that the EAPL figured as a separate group on ballots – as the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania. Therefore, it should be noted that the authors of the letter (or – author K. Garšva) should learn more about the electoral law,' says the EAPL leader.
In his answer V. Tomaševski underlined, that even in coalitions nationalist organizations did not gain the favour of voters during the last elections to the Seimas.
'The authors of the letter probably are not happy about the EAPL part in the ruling coalition, but it is very beneficial for the inhabitants of Lithuania. It should be noted, that the EAPL faction in the Seimas has launched a number of amendments which have been approved by the parliamentary majority. These amendments are extremely important for every inhabitant of Lithuania. Just to mention the increase of the funding allocated for local roads by ¼, the creation of thousands of new work places as a result of positive changes in tax system in the tourism sector. Moreover, worth mentioning are also the initiatives aimed at ensuring social justice. None of the EAPL representatives has been involved in any corruption scandal; the party is working honestly for the benefit of every citizen of Lithuania; voters, among which more and more are of Lithuanian nationality, see it and appreciate it. In turn, part of the signatories of the letter run for the Seimas; Moreover, four nationalist parties have created coalition, that did not even manage to gain 1 percent of votes. As we can see, this is a margin rejected by the society. The margin, that tries to remind about its existence by such activities as addressing letters of this kind. Many authors of the letter are the representatives of former soviet academic nomenklatura. These people were well situated during the times of the former system and later have cardinally changed their views or even nationality, possibly due to personal benefits,' notes the EAPL leader Valdemar Tomaševski.
The EAPL chairman stresses, that he is not surprised by such activities aimed at the Electoral Action. He also reminds, that the goal of Poles in Lithuania is only to restore what they had at the beginning of the Lithuanian independence.
'I am not suprised by this another letter aimed at kindling nationalistic quarrels, as part of the people chose this direction as an aim of their activities. But I was puzzled by the fact, that the letter was signed by the participant of the resistance movement Nijolė Sadūnaitė who has never changed her views and is a believer like Poles in the Vilnius Region. Maybe she did not get thoroughly acquainted with the content of the letter or maybe she has signed the letter as a sign of courtesy; in any case Poles in the Vilnius Region are open to cooperation with such people as Nijolė Sadūnaitė and others, but they used to unmask and will continue to unmask former soviet academic nomenklatura that has mastered the art of chameleonism to perfection. I would like to note it one more time, that Poles demand only what they had in 1991 when we were together fighting for independence, what existed for 19 years and what unfortunately was cancelled by the party of V. Landsbergis in 2010,' emphasized the EAPL chariman Valdemar Tomaševski.
