'The media continue to escalate the statement of Renata Cytacka on behalf of the Forum of Parents of Polish School in Šalčininkai district regarding the situation of national minorities in Lithuania. The EAPL Press Office deplores that in our country people are persecuted for expressing their own opinion on the processes taking place in the country. Recently a new motif has occurred in the media regarding the issue of the authorship of the text of R. Cytacka which journalists associate with the Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Valdemar Tomaševski. The media affirm that the document which was publicized by Renata Cytacka emerges to be allegedly created in the computer registered under the name of V.Tomaševski,' the EAPL Press Office announcement says.
The EAPL Press Office stated, that in January, when the document was created, V. Tomaševski was not in Brussels. The EAPL Press Office underlines that the only computers registered under the name of the deputy can be found Brussels.
'In response to media's insinuations regarding R. Cytacka's issue, the EAPL Press Office declares, that the only computers registered under the name of V.Tomaševski are in his EP office in Brussels. In January, when the statement of the Forum of Parents of Polish School in Šalčininkai district has been published, the MEP was not present in Brussels. E-mail box of the MEP in the European Parliament is being checked by his assistants. An assistant-linguist of V.Tomaševski, inter alia, uses this e-mail address also and Renata Cytacka and others often send the assistant their texts in Lithuanian and English in order to check them in terms of style,' the office informs.
The EAPL Press Office deplores over the large-scale tracking, according to the office, tracking of Lithuania's citizens.
'As we see, new motifs, that were supposed to be a sensation, burst like a soap bubble; however, they reveal a worrying trend that the citizens of our state are being trailed illegally by an ambiguous structure, are being overheard, their e-mail addresses are being checked, and not only in Lithuania but also abroad. The EAPL Press Office believes that this exceeds all acceptable limits, so that the problem of illegal and large-scale tracking should be addressed to law-enforcement agencies,' the announcement states.
'Recalling the case of the recent leak of secret information from the Lithuanian President's Office to the media, the EAPL Press Office draws attention to the fact that currently information leaks gathered during wiretaps in the European Parliament to the media take place. According to the Office, it is a complete fiasco of our country in the eyes of the international community,' the EAPL Press Office thinks.
