During the meeting Algirdas Stončaitis welcomed good bilateral relations and intensified dialogue.
'Lithuania and India are not geographically close but friendly countries. We are interested in reinforcing bilateral cooperation. By working together we can do much more for the benefit of our countries. Our countries share many things: same linguistic origin, aim to ensure rule-based world order, climate change concerns, involvement in the peace process in Afghanistan,' said Algirdas Stončaitis.
Lithuania is interested in the development of bilateral economic cooperation, in particular in the fields of innovations, biotechnologies and renewable energy sources. The businesses of India were invited to invest in Lithuania more actively. The Government attaches great importance to the improvement of the business environment, attracting of investments and development of innovations. According to the Government Chancellor, India is expected to take actions in relation to the opening of Embassy in Vilnius which will definitely contribute to the reinforcement of bilateral relations and cultural exchanges.
The participants of the meeting also welcomed the increasing number of students from India (the number of students from India studying in Lithuania is approaching 1000). The Government Chancellor wished the newly appointed Ambassador interesting and successful work and expressed the hope that cooperation will be beneficial for both countries.
Tsewang Namgyal is the tenth Ambassador of India to Lithuania. Previously he worked at the Embassies of India in Cairo, Tunis, Brussels, Singapore and Ottawa. During 2015–2018 he was the Ambassador in Havana. From 2018 he was appointed as the Ambassador of India to the Republic of Poland and resides in Warsaw.
Last week the newly appointed Ambassador of Lithuania to India Julius Pranevičius took his assignments.
