Col R. Petkevičius was congratulated on the new appointment by Vice Minister of National Defence, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Darius Skusevičius, NATO representatives working at ENSECCOE, NATO allies’ ambassadors, Defence Attachés, etc.
Deputy Director also changed over at the ceremony, French officer Lieutenant Colonel Pascal Fernandez will took over from France’s representative Colonel, Jean-Mark Bouillet.
completing the tour of duty with ENSECCOE, Col G. Bagdonas is leaving to serve in Georgia as Liaison Officer at the NATO Liaison Office in Tbilisi.
Before the present appointment, Col R. Petkevičius served as National Liaison Representative for at the Supreme Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, US.
During his career at the National Defence System Col R. Petkevičius headed NATO ENSECCOE in 2012-2014, Weaponry and Control Systems Department of the Ministry of National Defence, served at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) as Lithuania’s National Military Representative. The officer has also worked as Defence Attaché of Lithuania to the US and Canada, etc. Col R. Petkevičius began service with the Lithuanian Armed Forces in the Lithuanian Air Force, his list of decorations include the Cross of the Commander for Merits to Lithuania, US Order of Merit, National Defence System Medal of Merit, and NATO Commemorative Medal.
Currently personnel of ENSECCOE in Vilnius comprises experts from 11 countries - Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Turkey, UK, USA, the Czech Republic, and Finland. Ukraine is planned to join in the nearest while.
The NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence was established in Vilnius in July 2012 when the establishing nations signed the documents of establishment at the NATO Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, USA. In October 2012 accreditation procedures were completed and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation bestowed on the centre the status of international organisation.
ENSECCOE conducts analysis of various aspects of military energy efficiency and security, and protection of critical energy infrastructure. ENSECCOE staff also provide recommendations and proposals regarding operational energy security, application of alternative energy sources in warfare, and development of environmentally friendly and efficient military capabilities, arrange and take part in training and exercises.
The Centre organises various courses on an annual basis , one of the most important of them is the course on energy efficiency in military operations attended by representatives of NATO and partner nations.
Currently, ENSECCOE is arranging a conference/exhibit IESMA 2018 “Innovative Energy Solutions for Military Applications” which will take place in November 14-16 in Lithuanian Exhibition and Congress Centre LITEXPO. The event is held every two years to represent innovations to three typos of audiences at the same time: to science and innovation institutions, industry, and the military. It is the only exhibition in Europe that attracts representatives of energy efficiency and innovation to present their production and to discuss its impact on the world.
