The Council will discuss the situation in Syria, in particular, the preparations for the Geneva II Peace Conference to be held on 22 January and the impact of the Syrian crisis on the Middle East region.
Following the constitutional referendum of 14 and 15 January in Egypt, the EU's Foreign Ministers will take stock of the situation. The agenda also includes the Middle East peace process and the situation in the Central African Republic. The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton will brief the Council on the E3/EU+3 talks on Iran's nuclear programme.
Council will also discuss the situation in South Sudan, exchange views about the EU's long-term engagement in Afghanistan and adopt conclusions on Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Southern Sudan and Syria.
