It is an official closing event of the rotating six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Under the long-standing European tradition, leaders of presiding countries at the beginning of the term present to the European Parliament the main directions and later, on closing, the performance results of their presidencies. Key priorities of the Lithuanian EU Presidency were presented by Dalia Grybauskaitė in Strasbourg on 4 July last year.
From 1 January, the helm of the EU Council was taken over by Greece.
The visit will include a bilateral meeting between President Dalia Grybauskaitė and European Parliament President Martin Schulz to review the tasks that Greece needs to continue as well as discuss further collaborative efforts to boost the EU's economic growth, reduce unemployment and ensure competitiveness.
Following the plenary session, President Grybauskaitė and the European Parliament President will hold a joint press conference.
