The Prime Minister emphasised that the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, from the very beginning of the term, paid special attention to the relations with Poland. The Prime Minister welcomed the close dialogue with the Polish Government and the visits by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Lithuania.
‘We are open to the solutions of all pending issues as well as the coordination of our common positions, particularly with regard the negotiations on the multiannual financial perspective of the European Union and the upcoming NATO summit in Brussels. I am convinced that our states are more than just a geographic neighborhood’, said Saulius Skvernelis.
According to the Head of the Lithuanian Government, strategic relations between the two countries are illustrated by the successful activities of AB Orlen Lietuva in the Lithuanian and regional markets. Lithuania sees it as the centennial investment of strategic importance. The great contribution of this company to the social and economic well-being of the region also proves the readiness to continue investment projects in Lithuania.
The Prime Ministers of both countries remembered the late President Lech Kaczynski, who played the cornerstone role in acquiring the Mažeikių nafta plant, which illustrated the strategic partnership and Poland’s support for Lithuania and the energy security of the entire region.
Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis also thanked Poland for supporting the Baltic electricity link with continental European networks via Poland. ‘Tomorrow, the Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian and Polish Heads of Government meet in Tallinn, we have to find a complete solution for the synchronisation modalities’, underlined the Prime Minister.
With the staff of 1394 employees, Orlen Lietuva is the only oil refinery in the Baltic States. It is the largest Lithuania’s company, which exports most of its products and pays the highest taxes. In 2017, this company paid EUR 302 million in taxes and contributions.
