"The minister has a plan and proposals; the working group has to submit a law on compensation of pensions until the spring session. How soon we will be ready to compensate will depend on how soon the Seimas adopts the law and the President signs it," says Grauziniene.
The speaker of Parliament says that the decision depends only on the will of politicians: either pensions will be compensated for all at once, or at the beginning only for the eldest pensioners.
"We have discussed the sources of funds and the choice. Two variants will be proposed. We will discuss if pensions should be returned proportionally to all the groups, or only by age. In my personal opinion, first of all pensions should be compensated to elder persons," said Grauziniene.
The head of the Seimas also invites the members of the Tripartite Council to discuss increase in minimum salary (MMA) together with the introduction of the euro.
"We must find ways, resources, possibilities and a compromise that MMA would be not less than LTL 1509 (EUR 437) – it was agreed by all the coalition parties before the adoption of the Government's programme. It is a matter of negotiation, therefore, the Tripartite Council will begin working on it," said Grauziniene.
As reported, trade unions support only the increase of LTL 200 (EUR 58) in MMA to LTL 1,200 (EUR 348) and only in those regions where the gap between minimum and average salaries is the largest one.
