The meeting between the Presidents of Lithuania and Italy is taking place at a special time. Sergio Mattarella is coming to Lithuania on a state visit this coming July. He is currently forming a new government - which presents a good opportunity to highlight issues of importance for both Lithuania and Italy. The two heads of state will discuss security matters, cooperation in the European Union and NATO as well as the development of bilateral ties in culture, science and business.
Friday evening, the President will attend the opening of the Lithuanian art festival "Flux". The ten-day long event will be launched by two internationally acclaimed artists. Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla will conduct the Santa Cecilia orchestra at Teatro di Roma. After the concert, Dalia Grybauskaitė will present her with the Cross of the Knight of the Order for Merits to Lithuania awarded on the occasion of February 16.
The same evening will see the opening of an exhibition by media artist Deimantas Narkevičius.
The ten-day festival will present to the public more than 80 masters of Lithuanian visual and performing arts, including filmmaker and poet Jonas Mekas, avent-garde artist Jurgis Mačiūnas and stage director Eimuntas Nekrošius.
