The meeting also discussed the region’s security situation and situations in conflict zones. Particular attention was given to the implementation of all decisions taken at the Wales and Warsaw summits on the Alliance’s adaptation required to effectively meet all security challenges from wherever they arise.
“It is necessary to accelerate the work in the fields of reinforced training and deployment of forces, increasing the Alliance’s ability to appropriately and timely respond to all kinds of threats. It is also extremely important to strengthen our air defence in the Baltic region,” the Foreign Minister said. He emphasized that the key to strengthening the Alliance’s deterrence and defence posture in a dynamically changing security environment was the ability to make quick decisions.
Before the meeting with the General Curtis M. Scaparrotti, Linkevičius visited the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) located in Mons, Belgium, where he discussed the most relevant issues of security and the Alliance’s strategic agenda, including NATO’s new command structure, with experts serving at the Headquarters.
