Asylum
On Wednesday the civil liberties committee votes on new rules to shorten asylum procedures and discourage people from applying for asylum in more than one EU country. They would also introduce an EU-wide definition of non-EU countries that are safe for refugees to return to.
Posted workers
The employment committee votes Wednesday on new EU rules regarding posted workers, which are employees who are sent by their company to temporarily work in another EU country.
The text being voted on is the result of negotiations between the Parliament, the Council and the European Commission. It will still need to be approved by a majority of MEPs and the Council before the legislation can enter into force.
Digital society conference
Also on Wednesday, Parliament is hosting the conference “Shaping our digital future: the challenge of the digital revolution”, which will address the challenges and opportunities facing Europeans in a digital society.
President Antonio Tajani and Mariya Gabril, commissioner responsible for the digital society, will start off the debates. Tajani will then join a Facebook Live session at 17.30 CET.
Tunisia
Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed will meet with the foreign affairs committee on Tuesday where he will discuss with MEPs EU support for Tunisia's democratic transition, readmission of migrants and visa facilitation as well as Tunisian products’ access to EU markets and the European Commission’s black list of countries exposed to money laundering.
Enlargement
Johannes Hahn, the commissioner responsible for enlargement negotiations, presents the Commission's 2018 Enlargement Package to the foreign affairs committee on Monday.
The paper assesses reforms in the Western Balkans and Turkey as well as whether these countries are moving closer to EU membership.
