In the meeting, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister emphasized that Lithuania strongly supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. According to Linkevičius, Lithuania is ready to help to implement important European reforms in the parts of the region that are controlled by Ukraine.
“Lithuania is closely following the developments in the Luhansk region. In addition, we have contributed and we will continue to contribute to the development cooperation projects in the region,” Linkevičius said.
Harbuz thanked Linkevičius for Lithuania’s support. He noted that the inhabitants of the Luhansk region especially appreciated the possibility for schoolchildren and their teachers from eastern Ukraine to visit Lithuania and to acquaint themselves with the local education system.
The meeting also focused on opportunities for Lithuanian businessmen to contribute to regional reconstruction and for Lithuanian representatives to participate in projects initiated by the Luhansk region.
From 2015 to 2018, Lithuania and its partners financed 13 different development cooperation projects worth almost EUR 600 thousand in the Luhansk region of Ukraine.
