The Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a mechanism for bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Tunisia was signed during the visit, and the first political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries took place.
Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister noted that Lithuania would now have more opportunities to develop ties with Tunisia. It is expected that the newly appointed Honorary Consuls of Lithuania in Tunisia and Sousse will significantly contribute to the development of bilateral political and economic relations, the implementation of cultural projects, as well as they will actively represent Lithuania’s business interests.
The meetings in Tunisia discussed the relationship between the European Union and Tunisia, cooperation within the United Nations and other international organizations, and items on the international agenda.
Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister also met with the President of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts Samir Majouli to discuss strengthening economic relations between Lithuania and Tunisia.
Lithuania and Tunisia established their diplomatic relations on June 30, 1992.
