Venezuela’s democratic opposition will be awarded the 2017 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought at a ceremony in the Parliament in Strasbourg on 13 December.
Earlier that day, and ahead the EU summit in Brussels, MEPs will debate the latest developments in the Brexit negotiations with the United Kingdom. Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans and EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier will be in attendance.
Also on Wednesday, MEPs will vote on recommendations by Parliament’s inquiry committee on how to stamp out practices exposed by the Panama Papers scandal. In its report, the committee insists that the EU should take the lead in the global fight against tax evasion, tax avoidance and money laundering.
Parliament will decide on Tuesday whether to veto a European Commission proposal to allow phosphates in kebab meat.
