The President and the Ambassador discussed successful bilateral relations and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Luxembourg. In 2013, Luxembourg's direct investments in Lithuania, mainly in real estate transactions and financial and insurance activities, were bigger than foreign investment from France, the United Kingdom or the United States.
According to the President, Baltic-Benelux collaboration could contribute to promoting closer relations at all levels and in all spheres. As Luxembourg chairs the Benelux Economic Union this year, cooperation could be strengthened not only at EU and NATO levels, but also in dealing with regional issues.
"Lithuania and Luxembourg together will serve on the United Nations Security Council next year. Lithuania thanks Luxembourg for the support in seeking a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council and expects its backing in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development," the President said.
She underlined that Lithuania highly appreciates Luxembourg's support during the Lithuanian EU Presidency and looks forward to seeing the Prime Minister of Luxembourg at the Vilnius Summit next week.
The Ambassador, born in 1964, resides in Poland. Before this appointment, he has been a non-resident ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. During his career, Georges Faber also worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg.
