MEPs from the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR) defended firmly Poland's position, pointing to the extreme partiality and political game lead by the European Commission in this matter. ECR Chairman Ryszard Legutko stated that the Union's actions in relation to Poland are a persecution of the rightist government and present double standards of Union bureaucrats interfering in the internal affairs of a sovereign country.

The debate ended with the adoption of an unfavourable for Poland European Parliament resolution. 438 members voted for the resolutions, 152 were against, and 71 abstained. MEP Valdemar Tomaševski, who voted against the defamatory resolution, said that the Commission's actions are a misuse of European Union treaties because it is an attack on an elected by the Polish people government, which has the democratic right to carry out reforms in Poland, including the ones in a judiciary sphere. Tomaševski also added that many records of the resolution are simply a leftist attack on fundamental Christian values, including the statutory protection of life in Poland, which was repeatedly mentioned in the adopted document.
Dr. Bogusław Rogalski, expert on European affairs commented on the debate and adopted resolution in TV Trwam. He unambiguously assessed it as a treaty abuse by the European Commission, which by attacking Poland enters not its own competences, reserved for the European Council and the Council of Europe.
