In meetings with Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev, Parliament Speaker Tsveta Karayancheva and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Parliament's delegation expressed support for the plans of Bulgaria’s six-month presidency starting on 1 January.
Tajani said: “Bulgaria’s Presidency priorities are the European Parliament’s priorities. Together we share the responsibility to make Europe work so that our citizens will see results on common current challenges: migration, security and job creation for young people.”
Tajani and representatives of the political groups in the Parliament also took part in a public discussion with young people on the future of Europe. The Parliament President said: “We have to speak with citizens; we have to change Europe." However, he also noted that the EU has contributed to “70 years of peace, freedom, respect of human rights and human dignity".
“Europe is not only the European Central Bank or Schengen; we want to strengthen Schengen and the internal market, but that is not the only thing in Europe," Tajani continued. "We have to have our dreams and values, because without them we will not make Europe work."
Parliament’s delegation included MEPs Esteban González Pons (EPP, Spain), Elena Valenciano (S&D, Spain), Roberts Zīle (ECR, Latvia), Javier Nart (ALDE, Spain), Gabriele Zimmer (GUE/NGL, Germany), Monika Vana (Greens/EFA, Austria), Raymond Finch (EFDD, UK) and Nicolas Bay (ENF, France).
