“A strong dose of hostile pro-Kremlin disinformation is spread widely. The EU has some opportunities to act – to improve positive communication, counter-disinformation capabilities, adequate and smooth funding, to implement modern data analysis technologies, and to provide a legal basis for action. We must also make use of our cooperation with NATO. We can pursue our goals more effectively together with the like-minded partners,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius.
The ministers emphasized the need to return to this question and to assess the progress of the working groups of the EEAS on these issues, and, based on the analysis of the EEAS, to determine how these working groups would be further strengthened.
Over a few years, Lithuania has consistently raised issues on the EU agenda related to strategic communications and the Kremlin’s disinformation campaigns. In 2015, Lithuania was one of the initiators of the establishment of the East Stratcom Task Force.
