Yesterday, the State Tax Inspectorate (STI) started transferring the money donated by taxpayers through tax deduction for political parties.
This year almost 62 thousand people allocated a total of 950 thousand euro for political parties. It is less than in the previous
year - the parties received 1.03 million euro from 69 thousand taxpayers in 2016.
In terms of the number of benefactors, the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania-Christian Families Alliance took the first place - it was supported by 14 913 taxpayers (24% of all the people supporting political parties). The Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania-Christian Families Alliance will receive 115 011 euros.
Social Democrats are on the second place. 12,335 taxpayers (about 175 thousand euros) chose them for the allocations of their 1 percent. Compared with the previous year, the number of taxpayers supporting social democrats party decreased by nearly 3,000.
Conservatives are on the third place - 9675 taxpayers (about 243 thousand euros). The number of people supporting this formation has also decreased - in 2016 there were 11009 of them.
The majority of political parties has experienced the drop in the number of benefactors. The Liberals Movement has 1,749 supporters less than last year, the Labour Party - 2438 less, the Freedom Union (Liberals) - 965 less, Order and Justice - 604 less, Farmers and Greens Union - 562 less.
Taxpayers can transfer 2 percent of their income tax for public benefit organizations, and additionally 1 percent on political parties.
This year, benefactors donated to political parties and public benefit organizations 17 million euros in total.
