Dalia Grybauskaitė will hold a bilateral meeting with the Georgian President. The meeting will focus on the EU Eastern Partnership policy and preparations for the upcoming Vilnius Summit.
According to the President, the summit is very important for Georgia and for Lithuania as the EU presiding member state - in Vilnius it will become clear which direction the EU's relationship with its Eastern partners will take.
"Crucial decisions are to be taken in Vilnius. The resolve of Georgia and other Eastern partners to go the European way will not only promote progress and well-being of these countries, but will also have strategic importance to the security of the whole EU. It is essential that Georgia would not lack political will to successfully implement the assumed obligations as it will enable us to build Europe's future together," the President said.
At the highest-level meeting on 28 and 29 November in Vilnius, which will be attended by the heads of state of EU member countries and their Eastern partners, it is expected to see the initialing of the EU's Association Agreement with Georgia, including a free trade agreement. Progress will also be sought in dealing with visa liberalization issues. It will facilitate travelling to the EU member states for Georgian people.
The Vilnius Summit is one of the largest and most important events of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council.
