The laureate of the 2017 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought will be announced by Parliament President Antonio Tajani on Thursday 26 October.
Also on the agenda next week is the fight against modern drugs, the new Schengen entry/exit system in order to strengthen security checks at Europe’s borders, trade agreements with Australia and New Zealand and the ban on glyphosate-based herbicides by December 2020.
MEPs will also discuss press freedom and the protection of journalists following the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, a Maltese journalist who was working on the Panama papers, drug trafficking and corruption.
The ongoing sexual harassment scandal that erupted in Hollywood and the #MeToo campaign on social media will be debated by MEPs on Tuesday evening.
