EU standards must apply to all external energy suppliers

The European Council, attended by Dalia Grybauskaitė, charged the European Commission to specify how the provisions of the EU‘s Third Energy Package were applied to third countries. According to the President, legal interpretations should not give the green light to geopolitical projects that are not transparent and limit competition, such as “NordStream2”. The EU needs legal clarity helping to ensure that the highest European security, transparency and competitiveness standards were applied to external energy suppliers and energy infrastructure projects developed by them.
