The main subjects of the discussion and reports at the session included threats posed by the aggressive Russian policy; transatlantic relations and security from the Arctic to the Black Sea; the situation in Syria and Afghanistan; the fight against terrorism, hybrid threats, disinformation and propaganda; and processes in Western Balkans. Montenegro took part in the session as a full-fledged member of NATO and the Parliamentary Assembly.
Rasa Juknevičienė, MP, made a general report at the NATO PA Political Committee on the relations between Russia and NATO. The report focuses on Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration and the situation in Ukraine.
The NATO PA Standing Committee approved of the initiative of the Ukrainian delegation to organise the 2020 spring session in Kyiv, Ukraine. The representatives of Lithuania were among the most vocal supporters of the initiative.
Paolo Ali, representative of Italy, was re-elected to serve for the second term in office as the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Lithuania held NATO PA spring sessions in 2001 and 2014 and will hold a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Assembly on 23–24 March 2018.
