The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation and important international affairs issues. Lithuanian Foreign Minister L.Linkevičius thanked India for its support to Lithuania's bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council and called for closer cooperation to ensure world peace and stability.
Lithuanian and Indian Foreign Ministers signed a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic passports.
The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy also presented issues related to Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council and called on India to complete its current free trade talks with the EU as soon as possible.
In New Delhi, the Minister L.Linkevičius will also open the Lithuania-India business seminar and give a speech at the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Launched in 1996, the ASEM is an informal process of dialogue and cooperation bringing together 51 partners: 29 European countries, 20 Asian and Oceanian countries, the European Commission, and the ASEAN Secretariat. The ASEM dialogue addresses political, economic and cultural issues, with the objective of strengthening the partnership between Asia and Europe. Lithuania became an ASEM member in 2004.
