2018 EU budget
Parliament’s budgets committee votes on Wednesday on the EU’s draft budget for 2018. MEPs are set to reverse cuts made by the Council and to bolster funding for research programmes and tackling youth unemployment.
The latest economic and monetary developments in the EU will be discussed when ECB President Mario Draghi comes before Parliament’s economic and monetary affairs committee on Monday.
A European public prosecutor
The establishment of a European public prosecutor is to be put to a vote in the civil liberties committee on Thursday. The prosecutor’s office would oversee cross-border investigations about fraudulent use of EU money.
Football leaks
On Tuesday, representatives of Fifa, Uefa and the European Football Agents Association will be questioned by the Parliament’s special committee on money laundering and tax evasion. The hearing will touch, among other issues, on the transparency of the transfer market, the financing of football clubs and players’ image rights.
Brexit
Brexit is on the agenda this week with political group leaders and President Antonio Tajani gathering on Thursday to discuss the ongoing negotiations. A resolution on the negotiations will be put to a plenary vote in Parliament next week.
High-level conference on tourism
To mark World Tourism Day on Wednesday, Parliament holds a conference on how to enhance the competitiveness of Europe’s tourism industry. The high-level conference will be opened by Parliament’s President Antonio Tajani, and will be attended by MEPs, industry representatives and a number of European commissioners.
